Catholic Communicators in Uganda have converged at Leosim Hotel in the Diocese of Nebbi for their annual Communication Week that is aimed at taking stock and account of their activities and responsibilities.

The team of over 30 heads of various social communications departments and commissions at both national and diocesan level as well as Catholic journalists in the country is led by the Bishop Chairman Social Communications Commission, Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Franzelli, who is also the Bishop of Lira.

The long week meeting is held under the theme; “The Truth will set you free John 8:32, Fake News and Journalism for Peace,” and will be crowned with the celebrations of the 52 International World Communications Day (WCD) on Sunday.

Presiding over the mass that opened the meeting on Wednesday, Bishop Franzelli cited WCD’s theme to remind Catholic Communicators to always ensure that fake, half-truth, gossip and other disinformation is encountered in communication but instead promote true information that builds and promotes peace in the country and the world as a whole.

Bishop Franzelli further emphasizes the duty of evangelizing the masses by the catholic communicators through their offices and communication Medias.

Delivering his opening remarks at the opening, the Ordinary Bishop of Nebbi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanock also called upon Catholic Communicators to evangelize while communicating to the public for people to discover Jesus’ importance to the world.

Before the official opening, the Communications Coordinator of Lira diocese Fr. James Michael Ebong challenged commentators to be united in their profession and to the Catholic Church.
