Friends and a few selected well-wishers have joined the ordinary of Masaka Diocese Rt. Rev. Bishop Serverus Jjumba to celebrate his 1st anniversary.

It was on July 6th 2019, when Bishop Jjumba was installed as the 4th Bishop of Masaka Diocese succeeding Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa who served the diocese for 21 years. The first two Bishops of Masaka diocese were Bishop Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu and Bishop Joseph Kiwanuka, the first Black Archbishop in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

Bishop Jjumba 58, has marked the day in a scientific way due to the requirements of the government (standard operating procedures SOPs).

They started with a Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Sorrows Cathedral Kitovu where Bishop Jjumba recalled the preparations they had started for the June 3rd Uganda martyrs day celebration in 2020 which was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic leaving with losses since they had started preparations with cash expenses to some extent.

He said such uncertainties should not worry and drain people but rather to set priorities and start afresh.

Parents, Teachers, Government Leaders should all help the country in the post Covid-19 era, by redirecting the operations in different sectors for continuity and self sustenance.

Bishop Jjumba emphasized modern agriculture saying it has proved to the country if not the entire world that agriculture will always remain essential under all circumstances, that is why government should invest more in agriculture, have extension workers, improved farming practices and implements to ensure availability of food.

Bishop Emeritus of Masaka diocese Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa who has preached during the homily has assured on behalf of priests of Masaka diocese to work as a team to support Bishop Jjumba in his apostolic call.
