The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has described the late Fr. Gerard Reynaert as ‘a wonderful priest with a clean heart of Christ’, Uganda has ever had.

Fr. Reynaert, a priest of the Missionary Congregation of White Fathers which is also called as Missionaries of Africa, died of kidney related complications at Nsambya Hospital on Thursday last week at the age of 93.

The deceased who hails from Belgium, was the chaplain of the Little Sister of St. Francis Nsambya Complex and also the local bursar of the White Fathers’ community at Lourde House Nsambya.

Presiding over a requiem mass at Nabulagala Parish, Archbishop Lwanga recalled for a good environment and commitment the deceased exhibited to him while he was deployed at Nakasongola Parish for his pastoral work as a Curate 46 years ago.

He further described Reynaert as a faithful and humble priest who loved and served his God with total faith as well as lived a simple lifestyle.

The Very Rev. Fr. Reynaert was born in Belgium on October 22, 1925. He joined the White Father’s Novitiate in 1947. After going through the congregation’s priestly training, he took his missionary oath on July 21, 1951. He was subsequently ordained a priest on April 21, 1952.

Reynaert was posted to Uganda in 1954, since then, he has stayed in the country without taking any leave back to his country. He was worked at Catholic parishes like Nkozi in Mpigi district, Kisubi Seminary, Bujuni in Hoima, Busuubizi TTC in Mityana, Nswanjere Seminary, Rubaga Cathedral, Nandere, Nakasongola, Vumba, Ndibatta and Lourdel House.

Fr. Reynaert has been buried at St John the Baptists Catholic Church, Nabulagala in Rubaga division where the Ambassador of Belgium to Uganda H.E Hugo Verbist attended the burial ceremony.
