Makerere university council has instituted a select committee to investigate the involvement of Prof Erias Hisali and Gordon Mulangira the personal assistant to the vice chancellor Makerere university prof Barnabas Nawangwe over the allegations of being behind the army’s raid of the students halls of residents.

Appearing before the education parliamentary committee, the acting university secretary Yusuf Kiranda said that the matter was forwarded to the university council which has constituted a select committee to investigate the two officials of the university.

The vice chancellor Makerere University Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has refuted reports that the university has failed to engage the students saying that he has on several occasions called the students through different platform including social media for dialogue over a number of issues including the tuition matters.

He has also revealed that the reduction in the Number of students admitted at Makerere University has caused financial constraint forcing the university to increase the fees.

On the issue of state house scholarships, Nawangwe clarified that they receive 576M shillings every year, and 1.2bn shillings is got from the students sponsored on the students loan scheme.

Prof Nawangwe has also denied having knowledge of who deployed the army to the university.

However a number of MPs have raised several issues on the unrest going on in Makerere University.

Ongiertho Emmanuel the Jonam county MP has demanded for prof Nawangwe’s resignation while Budyope West MP Robert Mutebi urged the university management not to complicate issues.
