The Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese Msgr. Charles Kasibante has called for well founded families as they are the pillar to a strong Nation.
He says a country without firm grassroots breed a weak generation thus hailing the Holy Cross Family Ministries for the mission of strengthening the families, deepening of faith and guiding the youth to understand better, their faith.
He was officiating at the Holy Cross Family Ministries Try Prayer Contest that draws participants from Senior Secondary Schools competing on a given theme “Mary the New Eve” meaning salvation and God’s love to humanity through mother Mary held at their office at Nsambya Parish.
Msgr. Kasibante says prayers are needed to have stable and strong families less of it is the source of evils that are eminent in the country, killings, envy, misunderstandings and abuse of human rights.
He also reminded the students of the values within the Catholic Church that among others include; hard work, humility, fairness, equity and prayer.
19 Schools have participated in two categories 1. Writing which comprises of Proses, Essays, Poem and Fine Art and the second category is performing which includes songs, play and recited poems and the winners in the categories as a school get a trophy but again each winner in section of the categories wets gets 100,000/= and their teacher is given 50,000/=
Other prizes are awarded to the best actor, actresses, soloist, best conductor, best poet and outstanding performer.
At the end St. Augustine’s College Wakiso emerged the overall winner since they participated in all most each activity walking away with a trophy followed by Our Lady of Africa Namilyango and St. Balikuddembe Mitalamaria.
Holy Cross Family ministry a mission under the Holy Cross Congregation was started by Fr. Patrick Peyton now a venerable in the Catholic Church.
The Director for East Africa Holy Cross Family Ministries Fr. Leonard Olobo challenged school head teachers to take the competition serious because it builds students’ intelligence, creativity and above all to be strong in faith.
