Government has disclosed that 80 of the 100 patients diagnosed with cancer die every year due to late reporting at the health facilities.

This has been revealed in a fifth monthly media breakfast meeting at the Lourdel towers in Kampala where the Ministry of Health and Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) updated the country about the key sector interventions and achievements in line with prevention, control and treatment of Cancer.

According to the Executive Director UCI Dr. Jackson Orem, mostly 20 percent of the patients, who survive cancer after diagnosis, take early treatment.

He further explains that since the commencement of the radiotherapy machine at Mulago hospital, over 35100 with a daily reporting number of patients of 150 people, saving more than 15.7billion shillings from seeking treatment from abroad.

However, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine cautioned the public against consuming too much grained foods like G-nuts and poorly stored grains to avoid aflatoxins which are the factors of cancer infections.
