Over 500 people have dragged the Continental Tobacco company limited and the Attorney General to the high court seeking to be paid their money.

 

This group of people who are Farmers through their lawyers of Kabega,Bogezi and company advocates filed a petition asking for 2.5 billion for tobacco supplied to the Continental Tobacco company limited and 500 million for general damages.

They allege that Continental Tobacco company Limited being  licensed  by government/ attorney general as buyer and processor in Uganda sponsoring tobacco for the season of 2017 and 2018, it engaged the farmers to sign standard contracts for them to grow tobacco but not sell it to any other party expect to them.

They further say that the company also gave them loans in form of tobacco seeds,Fertilizers but the company has refused to pay them since the purchase of tobacco in 2017

In this matter however the farmers blame the Attorney General for failing to carry out his supervisory duties relating to the performance of contracts and thus want court to order respondents to pay all the money owed to them.

The respondents are given 15 days to file their defense before the file is allocated to the judge.
