At least 50 suspects have been arrested and detained at Wandegeya Police Station during an intelligence lead operation carried out in Kawempe division.
The operation was conducted in areas of Lower and Upper Nsoba, Mulago III parish Kawempe Division in Kampala District.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that the operation followed a public outcry of increased criminality and opium usage among the youths who terrorized the northern bypass and the surrounding areas of Gayaza road, Mawanda road among others.
The operation was commanded by Division Police Commander -DPC Wandegeya, SP Hassan Hiwumbire and deputized by OC operations, OC Kalerwe, and other team of officers.
The suspects include Amews Kafeero, Muhamed Magero, Denis Mukwanga, Hassa Kyobinga, Bashir Menya, Rashid Sserunjoji, Harunah Kijambu, Harman Jinog, Bright Kasujja, Sumaya Nasege, Innocent Ruhinda and Yahaya Kigozi, among others.
Onyango says that the suspects are being charged with being in possession of narcotic drugs and smoking opium while the exhibits recovered from them include unrolled and sticks of Opium.
