Hardly a month after Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga was killed from Kirinyabigo in Kawanda Wakiso district; more than 20 aspirants are interested in replacing him in parliament even before the electoral commission announces the program for the by-election.

Top names in the race include Hussein Lumumba Amin, son to former president Idi Amin Dada, former Terego MP and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) diehard Kassiano Wadri, and former Arua Woman MP and FDC diehard Christine Abia.

Other names being mentioned include National Resistance Movement’s Charles Asiki, the former Arua Mayor, former national youth MP and Yumbe Woman MP Nusura Tiperu, the chairman of Arua Chamber of Commerce Jackson Atima, also husband to Maracha Woman MP and a journalist-who turned-politician Lemerega Fadhil of the Democratic Party among others.

According to a posting on a popular social media site, West Nile Action Network, Wadri has reportedly confirmed that he would be gunning for the vacant seat while Tiperu reportedly mourning, says she had also been approached by the late Abiriga’s family to give it a shot.
