Jinja Catholic Diocese the animating diocese for this Year’s 3rd June Uganda Martyrs day celebrations at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo is progressively realizing its plans to having a successful event.

The Bishop of Jinja diocese Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika says they are working as a team together with all the Catholics from Jinja diocese and the entire Totoro ecclesiastical province, Uganda Catholic Secretariat, government and well-wishers to settle the Shs 2.2 billion budget that is supposed to run this year’s martyrs day celebrations.

Addressing the Press at the Uganda Catholic Secretariat Nsambya this afternoon, Bishop Wamika said, guided by the theme;  ‘Lord Increase Our Faith’ Luke 17:5, they are emphasizing prayers for this country to get rid of the many challenges through the intercession of the Uganda Martyrs.

Jinja Diocese prides in the two Martyrs St. Matia Mulumba and St. Gonzaga Gonza who originated from Kyebando and Budini respectively and the diocese is in consultations to be granted permission to leave a mark of St. Matia Mulumba at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo in memorial of when Jinja diocese animated martyrs day in 2023.

Jinja diocese last animated the 3rd June Martyrs day in 2002 and they are coming back when at least a million pilgrims is expected for this year’s 3rd June martyr’s day. The organizing committee advises all pilgrims intending to come to observe the health standards operating procedures against the spread of Covid-19 and security measures for their security and safety.

Foot pilgrims from Jinja will converge at the diocese on May 28th have a blessing mass and set off on 29th May, make two stop overs at Lugazi Parish and Seeta Parish before having a triumph entry at Namugongo on 31st where they will also have a welcoming mass immediately on arrival.
