The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has erected and consecrated a new Parish of St. Gonzaga Gonza Kamuli Parish in Kireka, making it the 69th Parish in Kampala Archdiocese.

St. Gonzaga Gonza the patron saint of the new parish is one of the 22 Uganda martyrs who was killed on 27th May 1886 at Lubaawo in Ntinda. The New parish has been curved from Bweyogerere Parish that is overseen by the Consolata missionary fathers under the leadership of Fr. Leo Bagenda and Kiwatuule that is run by Fr. Joseph Genza.

Rev. Fr. Paul Ssekayala who for long was teaching at Kisubi minor seminary has been installed as the new Parish Priest assisted by Rev. Fr. Simon Peter Kawooya.

Archbishop Lwanga said the new parish has come a day after the feast of the consecration of the latrine basilica in Rome marked every November 09th where Emperor Constantine lived and much of his cultural and emperor wear was inherited by the Catholic Church which is good for the historical knowledge in the Catholic Church.

In a brief history of Bweyogerere Parish Dr. Lwanga said it was started in 1959, under Namugongo Parish later it became independent and it has supported the erection of two parishes now St. Gonzaga Gonza Kamuli Parish erected on November 10th 2019 and earlier on St. Matthias Kireka Parish was also erected in 2015, all done to bring services closer to the people, know God and grow in faith.

He hailed among others Mr. Charles Ssekisiima is the one of those who donated the land where the new parish is situated.

He challenged the new parish priest to work along with the parishioners to develop the site of St. Gonzaga Gonza who was killed at Lubaawo in Ntinda because it helps Christians to pay homage or pilgrimage at the site to strengthen their faith.

Dr. Lwanga encouraged the gathering to love the Catholic Church, pray, join devotions and assist those in need, complement each other and be truthful that they will get God’s favours. It is at this point that he challenged intelligence personnel in governments to speak the truth to their leaders and presidents but bad intelligence that is full of hatred and envy has failed many states.

He also encouraged the congregation to observe the different feasts in the Catholic Church especially in this month of faithful departed (November) to pray for them because purgatory and heaven are there.
