The Masaka sports Arena in Kitovu has become an ecumenical ground where people from all walks of faith, cultural, political and other affiliations converged to witness the installation of the 5th Bishop of Masaka Diocese now Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba at an event that took place on July 6, 2019.

 

The installation process was led by the Bishop Emeritus of Masaka Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa along with the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Joseph Anthony Zziwa and the Pope Nunsio Archbishop Luigi Bianco.

 

The ceremony was witnessed by over 10 Bishops from the Uganda Episcopal Conference, others from the Anglican Church, heads of the Islam faith, the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga and the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi among others.

 

Before the installation ceremony Bishop Kaggwa in the Homily, thanked God for he has enabled him to preside over the diocese for 24 years when he succeeded the late Bishop Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu. He said the period of service was never a bed of roses challenges were faced but God has always provided and led a way through, that is why Masaka is celebrating some of the achievements.

 

Baptist Kaggwa asked the new Bishop Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba to be courageous, patient, trust in God and the priests, and listen to the Christian’s he is going to serve, because he is a shepherd who is to care for all and the lost sheep.

 

Masaka is one of the areas that is not immune to bad practices like witchcraft, child sacrifice, kidnaps and murders, corruption, family breakdown and poverty among others which Bishop Kaggwa said are challenges of the modern age but with consistent reminder, counsel and reaching out to the communities a change can be realized and Masaka is made better.

 

The new Bishop Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba 54, prayed to God to assist him shepherd God’s flock.

 

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga congratulated Bishop Kaggwa for his service and called on the New Bishop to emulate him be available in need of advise to the nation and also work towards ensuring that development initiatives in farming, improving on agricultural products and economic empowerment for the people of Masaka are jealously protected.

 

The Vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi presented a Car from the government that will assist the New Bishop in Transport.
