The shadow Attorney General Elias Lukwago has asked the committee on legal and Parliamentary affairs to seriously consider reforms regarding the electoral process, particularly, the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Salient among the reforms being advocated, the IPC would like to see put in place, is the institution of a 10 year ban from any public office of a Member of Parliament or Presidential candidate implicated in the any election mal-practice. The legislator would also like to see a law put into place which throws out a member of Parliament from the August house if he is ever convicted even if he lodges an appeal in the higher court.

Lukwago argues that once such a law is in place, it will help put an end to the seemingly high levels of immunity enjoyed by a cross section of MPS citing an example of the Nambooze Vs Bakaluba Mukasa case that is still pending in the Supreme Court.
